July 24 2011We had a frog fry yesterday here at the house and it was our last bag in the freezer. They were so good we decided to go get some more.So me,buckshot and a couple buddys headed to the river at dark. We took a 5 mile run and just caugth the bigger ones and still got our limit 32. We caught every one by hand so we could keep them alive and skin em today.I didnt take my camera to the river with that bunch so I took pics before we cleaned them.Oh! If you get out of the boat to get a frog behind a couple logs. Check to be shure the second log is solid! Soon as we started there was a frog behind 2 logs . So I said I will walk the log and get him. Well when i walked down the first log . Then went to step on the second log to reach for the frog. It was a floater and in the river I went up to my waist . The frog jumped in with me . All i got was a wet butt and laughed at. Ha Ha

July 31 2011 I had a game cam hung out on my 320 acres for the last 3 weeks. I moved it 3 times and got a few pics. All the does seem to be on the south end and the bucks seem to be on the north end. When i went to pull the cam yesterday there was 2 bucks in my food plot. I didnt have a pic of either of them. They were both real nice bucks.Maybe I can get the better bucks on cam later in sept. post-1354-139589298393_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589298394_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589298394_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589298395_thumb.jpg

Caught them all by hand. I have been eating frogs 3 times a week for the last month . Wow they shure are good eating!I haven\'t put every trip on my blog . When we started frog hunting I told the other guys, It would be fun to try to catch 300 frogs this year. Well when i set out to do something I give it my all !! It took 10 nites and 76 miles of river, Oh and alot of lost sleep! LOL( I\'ll sleep when I die) . But 5 of us went friday nite and got 40. So that put us at a total of 311 for the time being. I may go agian if some one wants to,but its time to start squirrel hunting and shooting my bow!

Aug 23 2011I went out to my land 320 acres yesterday to clean up all the roads and brush hog them and my 6 food plots. I have to go when its pretty dry because you have to have 4x4 to get to the land. Its 5 miles back in the woods. And pulling a tractor on a trailer makes it worse .I started clearing the plots 3 years ago. I had a guy with a big dozer come out and push all the trees off. I had 3 done the first year and 3 more cleared 2 years ago. Also had 3 ponds built just to water the wildlife. It gets dry back on those ridges in the summer time. After he pushed all the trees off . I spent weekend after weekend cutting sprouts and roots even picked up all the big rocks . It took a while but it was worth it!I had a soil sample done . Went to Potosi and got a wheel drivin lime buggy so i could spread it with my truck. Got the fertilizer from them to. R&M feed real nice people there!I put clover in all of them and some wheat the first year. The weeds are starting to take over the 3 from the first year. I will probly be redoin them next year. It shure made the deer population alot better sice I put them and the ponds in . The guy on the west side of me has 1500 acres and hes doing the same thing . Wow how it has helped the deer . We see more bigger bucks than years before now. I put in a few pics of the plots and a pond . 2 of the plots are about an acre apiece and the other 4 are 1/2 acre or a little bigger. post-1354-139589298979_thumb.jpg post-1354-13958929898_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589298981_thumb.jpg

Aug 29 2011This weekend redhuntingal and her grand daughter Andy came down. Saturday we got out her Browning 22 to see how she could shoot open sights.I set up a target 20 yds away and explained to her how to line up the sights and how the gun works. I love doing this with kids!! She shot several times , some were on the plate and some weren\'t. She did hit the red dot once and was so excited ! I thot she did pretty good for her first time. Im shure she will get better the more she shoots . We all had our first time shooting and probly did about the same as her. She had fun and so did I !

Sept. 10 2011About a week ago an older guy I know wanted to go see how I catch those big catfish. His name is Corky and hes 83 years old. Hes a good friend !I told him Id take him friday nite. So I called my buddy Lawrence and ask if he would go with us. Because ol Corky dont get around real good. Me and Lawrence went and got bait . I called Corky and said were on our way to pick you up. He was more than ready. His wife said he was excited all week.We had to help him in the truck and in and out of the boat. We went to the river last nite and it was raining the whole time we were on the river settin lines. We picked Corky up at 5:30 this morning, he was so ready to go! We got half way there and he said darn I for got my rain suit. Well it was raining pretty hard when we got to the river. Corky said, Oh ill just sit in the truck while you guys run the lines. I said no way Corky you can wear my rain coat you gota see the fish we catch. He said ok . So we headed down the river in the rain. (me with just a sweat shirt on and rain pants. Yep I was a wet rat , but It was Corkys first time doin this and I wanted him to see everything. The first line had a 20,28 and 48 lbers on it I weighted the 48 and took a pic with Corky ,kept the other 2. When I slid the 48 back in the river he like to had a stroke. It was funny! I told him that we would catch more. On up the river we had a 42 lber. He pleaded with me to keep it! So I gave in and kept it. A little farther we had a 58 lber I took a pic and let it go. Yep anouther stroke! :cry:I said we got 150 lbs in the boat thats plenty. Even tho we let 118 lbs go. I think I saw a tear in his eye! LOLThis is what I love to do . Take people that cant do the things that they want to do without help!:thumbup:We ended up catching 268 lbs it was a good catch! Corky will be talking about this for weeks im shure . I will remember This because it reminded me so much of my dads last year before he past. post-1354-139589299513_thumb.jpg post-1354-13958929952_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589299521_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589299522_thumb.jpg

Sept 24 2011I got a call from Dena my buddy that she shot a deer . She said it was a pass thru and that it was a yearling. I headed out to where she hunts and started tracking it.Well it was a pass thru rite through the ponch. I have done it both ways . I have let em go over nite and I have stayed after em till they get weak. Its warm so we stayed after her.We went about 80 yards from where she shot it and it jumped a fence. Yep there was guts on the fence and on the other side. we went through a cedar thicket and down in a creek bottom . We jumped it and it hit the creek. down the creek it went about 100 yards and was layin in the creek. Still alive so I put it out of its misery. After all the good shot was not very good but we still recovered her deer. The yearling she said it was was a doe with milk ! :duh:We drug it out and came to my house and 1/4ed it up and put it in the frig. After a 3 hr tracking job in the dark she got her team 75 points . Way to go BFF.

Sept 27 2011I hung a cam in one of my food plots sunday morning while I was out at the cabin squirrel hunting. I saw a chicken mushroom starting to grow on a black oak snag. I thot with the warm weather yesterday that it would be grown. I had to go see after work today and check my game cam.It was bigger than sunday so I picked about half of it and left the other half to get this weekend. The guys at work said they wouldnt drive an hour for a mushroom. Well I couldnt let it go to waste. I love to eat them.I gota some pics in my food plot to! post-1354-139589300219_thumb.jpg post-1354-13958930022_thumb.jpg post-1354-13958930022_thumb.jpg

Oct 2, 2011Wednesday nite me and my buddy went to the river and set lines so I could take huntnmomma, mohuntress and her son the next morning to run them. They had a BLAST! It helped that the big ones bit. We had a 70,58,55 and the others were 15 to 20 lbs. Only had 6 but they were good ones. I heard from both girls that same day that they wanta go back agian! On my way back from the river Wednesday nite my buddy Coryell called and ask if I wanted to go set lines Friday nite with him. On a different part of the river. I told him I was gona go out to my cabin and bow hunt but Id go with him and go hunting after we got back Saturday.Well it was a bad bad nite fishing we only had 2 little fish.I told him he could come out and hunt with me Saturday eve. The wind was kinda out of the North East so it limited us to where we could sit. I sent him down to one of my food plots and I went down the ridge about a mile to another food plot of mine. It worked out for both of us, We both got a nice doe!Today I cut up the doe I killed and got her in the freezer. Back to work tomorrow!:(post-1354-139589300336_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589300337_thumb.jpg

Oct 20 2011I took huntinmomma and mohuntress a few weeks ago to the river to run lines. We had some good fish that day . So I told Trish I wanted to take my buddys ( her kids) one day . She said they were off school today . So I went and got bait and set the lines last nite in the chilly weather. I met Scott,Trish and the 3 best well mannered and polite kids iv ever seen at Washington this morning at 6:30. We went to the river bundled up and ran the lines. It wasn\'t a real good day . We only had 3 fish . The biggest around 15 lbs. But I think everyone had a good time on the river this cold morning.

Nov 27 2011We headed to North Mo. the 14th of the month trapping season opened the 15th. We stay at a friend of my buddy Jimmys i went with at his house and used his garage to skin our catch. They were REALLY nice people!!We took off at 6 tuesday to start settin traps. We got in 68 stops. There was 1 trap at some places but most had 2 and some had 4 or 5. The first morning we ran em we had 83 coons . We set 10 more stops. We got back to the shed at 5 and ate . Then skinned till 10:30 all 83. The second day we had 68 coons. The 3rd day was our best ever we had 94 coons!! We skinned till 11 that nite and got 70 of em skinned and left the others till the next day. We had 48 the next day and we skinned them and the ones from the day before. After that nite we had a bad nite and only had 9. So we pulled our traps and went to some new country. It was a good move we caught 45 the next nite. We just kept adding new traps on down the road and pullin the ones that had been in for 3 days.We ended up with 531 coons in 11 nites! It was not an easy tast. We were goin from 6 in the morning till 10 or 11 at nite every day! Up and down creek banks and ditches all day and skinning at nite. We were both dragin butts after 4 days but we went to catch 500 and we caught a few more than that. We averaged 48 coons a nite ! Now we just have to flesh and strech them . Then take em to the fur sale. But theres some more traping to do first!

Jan 7 2012I left my house today at 3:00 pm to go bow hunting at my good buddy Jacks house. Hes an older guy that I take hunting and fishing with me from time to time. He has 80 acers about 10 mins from my house. When I got there I put my camo on and got my tree stand out of the back of the truck. Reached in got my bow out of the back seat then set it on the ground next to my tree stand. Started to spray down with scent killer THEN realized I left my fanny pack at the house. With one of the most important things in it my RELEASE ! DARNIT:duh:So I put my bow back in the truck. Figured I just as well go up in the woods and hang my stand so I dont have to make so much noise in the morning when I go back. When I got home the first thing I did was put my fanny pack in the truck! So I decided to put my other camo on and head out behind my house to do a little squirrel hunting. Got my Remington 541 T HB 22 out and headed down the hill. The squirrels were out pretty good. But they were mostly on the ground and not sitting very still. I managed to get 5 to stop long enough to get a shot. I shoot em in the head so they gota stop and hold there head still long enough to get on em and shoot. It makes it kinda hard to hunt them when there on the ground. With the leaves being so dry it makes it hard to sneek up on them. This is how I salvaged my start to a bad afternoon. post-1354-139589303382_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589303383_thumb.jpg

We got there unloaded the boat put the lights on and headed down the river at 6:30. We had to go a couple miles down to find fish .We got in one big hole of water and there must have been 200 suckers in it. We made 3 circles around it and headed back up the river. I told em we had all we wanted to clean on a work night. The river was clearer than I thot it would be,we could see in about 10 ft of water. We got back to the truck at around 8:30. we loaded the boat and headed up to the shop that we work at to clean fish in the warmth. Got em cleaned and scored . Jan 15 2011I was going to take kellthemquick and kymbo gigging tonite. Kellthemquick text me today and said they couldnt make it tonight. So I got ahold of huntnmomma and ask if her and stlwolf could go tonite. Well stlwolf wanted to go bow hunting this eve so huntnmomma said she would go with me and buckshot. We headed to the river with my buddy Andy from work and he brough his daughter and his buddy and his girl friend. They were in his boat and we were in my boat.Huntnmomma hasnt been gigging since she was 14. Wow she didnt forget how to gig!! She had a great nite! Our boat had our limit (60) and Andys boat had 30. We headed to the shop where me and andy work to clean the fish. Andy brought a scorein machine so it made scorein them alot faster than useing an electric knife.Everyone helped scale and clean all the fish. It was a great night to be on the Meramec. It was 45 degrees and we could see in about 8 ft of water. I knew the fish were thick in the hole of water we went to because we were down there last Monday night gigging! Everyone got to take home a good mess of suckers. post-1354-13958930346_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589303461_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589303462_thumb.jpg post-1354-139589303462_thumb.jpg
